Another new market for Merlo: ski resort

Recently Le Relais, renowned ski resort in the Quebec City area, equipped itself with a Merlo telehandler, more precisely with a Panoramic 35.12, to optimize the installations' maintenance. Once they realized the impressive variety of tasks that could be achieved with a Merlo rotative model, people at Le Relais sold the Panoramic to P.E.B. (sister company specialized in road work and who uses the Panoramic in its quarry) to acquire a Merlo Roto 38.16.

The numerous possibilities that the Merlo Roto 38.16 offers can be put in two categories: maintenance and handling.

Le Relais's Maintenance Director confirms saving the equivalent of two workers and lots of time with the Roto. He gives for example the maintenance of terminal line, weighing 800 kg (1,760 lb), done directly on the towers, in the mountain, thanks to the radio-controlled basket and the 16' expandable platform. Also important to mention, the rotative basket allows working in a parallel way on the structures to be maintained improving, once again, efficiency and safety. Thanks to his new equipment, the Director was able to eliminate the dismantling of parts, back and forth transport to the workshop and the long alignment process when doing the reinstallation. He also admits to save two workdays for each terminal line, totalizing 54 days "saved" for the whole resort; representing a time economy of 66%. Furthermore, the workers' safety is, at the same time, significantly increased; due to the wide and robust platform replacing regular manlift at the back of the "musky" or the cable mooring.

To this time saving, we can add the rental costs savings for equipment related to maintenance. Therefore, the chairlifts and snow system's maintenance are now assured by the Merlo Roto eliminating the need for expensive rentals for mechanical shovels and wheel loaders while improving the maintenance schedule flexibility and decreasing the number of double manipulations.

Several other maintenance tasks saw their efficiency increased and their man time decreased because of the versatility, the frontal reach and the speed of movement of the Roto. And let's not forget to mention all the breakdowns avoided thanks to the telescopic reach and the boom's power favouring the preventive maintenance of buildings, sheds, lights, "BR" and their tracks.

Besides maintenance, Merlo helps a lot with the handling on site. Used to install, put in storage and suspense T-Bar at the beginning and end of the season, picking up construction debris, picnic tables, rental office's equipment, parking's concrete blocks or rails for the snow park; installation and storage time have largely decreased and human double manipulations were eliminated. From now on, chairlift's engines and heavy parts, weighting up to 2,300 kg (5,070 lb), are handled and set up with the versatile Merlo Roto 38.16; avoiding once again expensive rentals for lifting equipment. "Everyday, our men find new ways of saving time with the Roto" said the Maintenance Director.

The reason why Merlo is the only performing telehandler in a ski resort is because of its dynamic stability allowing it to climb slopes with 50% of inclination, thanks to its full 3" Ring of Steel TM which gives a low gravity center and to its powerful and compact Class 1 hydrostatic transmission. The millimetre-length precision of the movements confers an undeniable and necessary safety in the use of a basket on the mountain. Furthermore, Le Relais's Roto has all the characteristics that make Merlo famous (360 degrees vision, full anti-torsion chassis, the largest cab on the market, compatibility to the 90 Merlo's attachments, etc.).

Manulift EMI, with branches in Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City, is an importer of the Merlo products. Manulift EMI is proud to offer these innovative telehandler products to Canadian entrepreneurs.

The high demand for the Merlo product is clear with more than 700 units sold in Canada in the last six years. Merlo is the telehandler world leader with pure innovation since 40 years. With 28 units produced every day, Merlo is the most demanded telehandler brand worldwide.
