Samuel Bradette, a 29-year-old Manulift Sales Representative, is an adventurous person. He loves challenges, exploring, moving, and most importantly, winning. Before joining Manulift, Sam worked extensively in business development for a mining company in Canada, Africa and the Middle East. He quickly found that he had a passion for sales and was good at it. He eventually was scouted and recruited by Manulift.

What positions have you held with Manulift so far?

“It’s been a year-and-a-half since I started at Manulift. I started as a mining Sales Representative in Quebec. It was a tough industry because project take more time to develop. I managed to sell some Merlo telehandlers and worked hard to establish connections in the industry.

A few months ago, Manulift offered me an opportunity to go to Toronto to work as a construction Sales Representative. I did a month here, while coming back to Quebec periodically, to see what the transition would be like. Now I’m here permanently and I love it!”

Why did you say ”yes” to the opportunity to move to Toronto?

“I saw the enormous potential that Toronto has to offer! I’m close to the construction industry’s key decision-makers. I’m able to invite them to see our brand-new Stoney Creek office, which is incredible, and to see the machines for themselves. As soon as I arrived, I realized that I had everything to gain here. Toronto is also a really fun place to live!”

How are you adjusting to your new city?

“Honestly, I was a little scared at first. When you think of Toronto, it’s this massive city, and I was worried that the people wouldn’t be friendly. It’s the complete opposite! It’s multicultural, everyone is super nice, people say hi to each other, little things like that. Even on construction sites, everyone is welcoming. It’s a city that I see myself living in long-term!”

What would you say to another sales rep who’s been offered the same opportunity as you?

“From a financial perspective, there are so many sales opportunities here, it’s crazy. Toronto is the biggest construcion market in Canada and one of the biggest markets for telehandlers in North America. I’m not left out here to fend for myself. I get a lot of support and coaching from the executive team and the rest of my colleagues. It’s a chance to learn from the best. Also, the city is amazing: It’s a really fun town, especially for young people. And if you’re in the construction industry, it’s a real gold rush.”

What do you think are the 5 qualities that a Sales Rep needs to have to be successful?

  1. “Definitely, you need to be resilient.
  2. Passion, energy and motivation! Those qualities are contagious.
  3. Hard worker, well organized and eager to learn.
  4. Be able to take risks and accept failure…get your hands dirty! Learn from your mistakes and get better.
  5. Be personable and interested in what people have to say. You can teach skills, but you can’t teach authenticity.”

For Sam, Manulift has become a place where he can truly develop his skills.

“Manulift is one of the best sales schools in the country. There aren’t a lot of other places where you can learn as fast and challenge yourself everyday. It’s not easy, but after a while, everything gets easier. You understand how our product can help businesses be more productive and you develop good sales techniques” said Sam.
