Manulift is committed to supporting the mental health of Quebec farmers

MANULIFT announces partnership with ACFA and UPA of Capitale-Nationale–Côte-Nord to support mental health services in the agricultural community through the Travailleur de rang project

(Quebec City — Sept. 10, 2021) Manulift is proud to become a donor partner in support of Au cœur des familles agricoles (ACFA) and its agricultural mutual aid network, particularly the Travailleur de rang project. Our social commitment will have a direct impact on the hiring of a first resource in the Capitale-Nationale–Côte-Nord region through the regional UPA.

Twice as many suicides among farmers

The field worker is a social worker who works with the agricultural population to prevent suicide. The rate of psychological distress and suicide is said to be twice as high in this population as in the general population. In a preventive approach, they travel the countryside to meet with farmers to assess their psychological health and, if necessary, provide assistance to them and their families.

Manulift stands in solidarity with its agricultural customers

Manulift has a large customer base of agricultural producers located throughout Quebec. This partnership is part of the company's commitment to strengthening our agricultural division in order to better meet the needs of farmers and their families. This division forges links between our experts and agricultural communities so that the latter are better heard, understood, and served. This proximity to producers reflects Manulift's desire to send a message of solidarity to the agricultural community. In this sense, Manulift wishes to create a social commitment to this cause, which is close to its heart.

“As a company specializing in telescopic handlers, Manulift has been working closely with the agricultural community for several years. Today, we wanted to take concrete action to maintain and improve the mental health of our customers,” said Pierre Brulotte, National Agricultural Sales Manager.

"Being in daily contact with farmers, this cause is particularly close to our hearts. Taking concrete initiatives in terms of social commitment marks a new chapter for our company. We now have the opportunity to help the people who feed us and build our homes and hospitals. It is our duty to support the men and women who work in essential services," emphasizes Pascal Prévost, National Director of Marketing and Communications.

Financial support and corporate social responsibility

We want to draw attention to this program, break down the taboos surrounding mental health issues in the agricultural community, and encourage our partners to make contributions in order to recruit more resources.

Over a three-year period, Manulift is committed to donating $25,000 per year to the ACFA, including $12,500 to the UPA de la Capitale-Nationale–Côte-Nord, while promoting the cause and organizing occasional fundraisers to further contribute to it.
